Are there any erros in Device Manager?  (Start Menu, Settings, Control Panel, System, Device Manager)  If you have an error (yellow !) on your IDE controller, then the CD-ROM will not show up.

Also check your Autoexec.bat, and Config.sys files for any drivers such as "Device=c:\CD\driver.sys" and "MSCDEX ..."  If you find these, either remove, or place "rem" in front of the lines, and try again.

Jason, try downloading a universal cd-rom device driver and installing it. You'll get one from www.winfiles.com

Me?! :)

That would be good for testing

In the end, you should let Windows handle the drive.  Otherwise, your system will run slower.

(Assuming this is a Win 95/98 machine)Go to device manager (Right click my computer and select properties).
Double click the CD-ROM category. This allows you to look at the CD-ROM entry.
Delete this entry and restart the PC. Windows will now redetect the CD-ROM, for which you will need the device driver.I am sure you can find a device driver for your CD-ROM, but if you have problems, go to www.driverguide.com
