SAF CDR works, CDRW doesn't

I just installed a "Smart and Friendly CD-R 8020 CD Rocket SE".  The CDR works fine; the CDRW doesn't.  It would seem all is installed correctly since I can record.

The error messages from the last two attempts:

------error6.log:
T7303: TrackWriter error - Undefined or invalid parameter
T7303: TrackWriter error - Undefined or invalid parameter
T7118: TrackWriter error - Command retry failed
D0100: I/O error (05/64/00) - Command error - illegal mode for this track

----------error5.log:
T7303: TrackWriter error - Undefined or invalid parameter
T7303: TrackWriter error - Undefined or invalid parameter
T7118: TrackWriter error - Command retry failed
D0100: I/O error (05/64/00) - Command error - illegal mode for this track
T7205: TrackWriter error - Undefined or invalid parameter

The recorder comes with an Adaptec AVA2902B.  I've updated the ASPI layers, the Adaptec Easy CD 3.5c, and EZCSCI 5.0.
Also removed the sound card, thinking there may be a conflict, and updated the system to Win98SE.

You can find lots of documentation about my system and the problem at

The CDR media, which worked, is "Smart and Friendly" brand, gold color, "performance plus", 74 minutes, 650MB.

The CDRW media, which didn't work, is silver-colored "memorex 4x rewrite speed", "platinum" 650mb, 74min.

Is the SCSI chain termination set properly?
What SCSI card is this connected to?

If the SCSI card settings are set to fast for the device, this could be the problem.

I could be wrong, but I just checked the manufacturer's web site and found your model.  It does not have re-write capabilities.  It is a CD-R only device.  If this is truely your model, you cannot use CD-RW media in it.  If it is new, I'd take it back and get a CD-R/CD-RW model.
