I bought Conexant HCF 56K Internal winmodem, and I can't make it work in linux. Is there any way it could work?

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Unfortunately not.  Winmodems are incompatible with Linux, and most likely will be eternally.  As the name implies, they are designed for windows.  They do not have a hardware UART, and are therefore unusable in Linux.  I would recommend any external modem, or if you must go internal, get an ISA modem with a UART and jumpers.
