I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

the most versatile editor you'll probably be able to get, with which you can (amongst other things) edit HTML, CSS, SGML, JavaScript, Perl, C++, etc, _and_ read your mail, read newsgroups, play games with, and get therapy from the amazing psychotherapish "Eliza" is:

emacs

Notepad is the worse possible choice.  It is the crdest pile of crap possible.
Ultraedit32 or anything else beats it in so many way I would bring down the server listing them.

Try viewing ascii charcters, opening many files at once, printing layout, column mode ... in notepad.  Youa are better off writing an editor in an afternoon.

Try EditPad.  Also free, and much better than NotePad.

HTMLtool is a great HTML editor.  It is written by Lorenz Graf, and it has many of the same features as Allaire's Homesite.  The trial never expires, you just have to put up with a couple of reminders.  But everything works on it.  And it's a really nice program.  It's small too!  Download it here:

No Nettrom, emacs not tested yet. your home page is poor and I imagine ....
But let's go give a chnce OK ?
emacs will be revised.

"your home page is poor and I imagine ...."

what exactly does my homepage have to do with the quality of emacs?  geez, gimme a break.  I didn't write the thing, and my homepage has nothing to do with emacs (except that it's my everyday tool for writing HTML, CSS, JavaScript and reading mail & news).

what exactly are you looking for anyway?  are you looking for an HTML _editor_, in other words a text editor suitable for editing HTML, or are you looking for a WYSMBWYTYATROTWG (What You See Might Be What You Think You And The Rest Of The World Gets)?

nettrom,

You dont need put any agressivity. My job is stress me at this time and our boss need urgent/quallity solutions. When I saw your URL I remember of the old times of internet, a page with wallpaper, only font style, etc and I'm sorry because I don't read the contents before judge it.
I gave this tasks to our educational staff, and today I'll take the  answer.
