communication on LPT1 under W9x

I wolud like to connect a potmeter-table and communicate with it under W9x. Fist of all I have to locate the base-port for LPT1
and then send and read datas to it's status, command and control port.
Is there any simple method to communicate with the port like
in DOS (simple in/out assembly instuctions)?
Or should I use Win32 API functions?
If yes, which ones?
Or should I write a client VXD?
If yes, how?
A sample would bee fine.

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

You can use in/out instructions just like in DOS. Win95 gives you access to ports.
You can use Win32 Communication functions.

The following article talks about serial communications, which is similar to parallel communications.
