"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Storing and retrieving variables is simple if you have Flash 4. As of now, Flash does not support ODBC functions or other database APIs. In a survey I took from Macromedia, they asked if I would like to see that in the next version of Flash and I said YES!

Anyway, here is how you store and retrieve variables in Flash.

In the Actions tab of an instance, you can use the Set Variable command to set a variable equal to a certain value.

Variables are simply retrieved by using their name in an action, for example:

if(name eq "")

This performs an action if the variable 'name' has not been filled in.

I hope this helps you!

Actually, I retract, there IS a way to create a temp database, but it involves a lot of Perl programming and a lot of CGI and form posting.

Can i use ASP instead of CGI perl to create a temporary database in flash??

SuperMarioCommented:
I don't think so, because Flash only posts variables to CGI via GET or POST.

Sorry =/
