Characters fade w/ Lexmark 1020

I have a Lexmark Colorfine 1020 with the correct, un-refilled cartridge. But whenever I print, it seems as if it runs out of ink. But this is not the case. As the printer begins to print a line, all is fine until the right-hand side of the page, where the problem occurs. This happens with every line, so a page full of text is almost blank on the right side.

I'm familiar that model printer but have seen similar problems in other printers. I am going to assume this is an inkjet type printer with a moving print head. It sounds like a bad cable to the print head assy. As the head moves back and forth the cable flexes  and the connection cuts in and out.

Yes, you are correct in assuming that it is an inkjet printer with a moving head. If your assessment is correct, does that mean that the only way to fix the problem is to have the printer brought into a shop for repair/servicing?

much like joed's response, the problem here is that the printhead assembly is misalligned.  This causes the print heads to actually come up a bit off the paper when getting to that side of the page.
