Cannot delete a DTS package!!!

Hi all... I am running SQL Server 7.0 SP 1. I have two DTS packages saved to the repository that I cannot delete. When I try to delete them using EM I get an hourglass for about ten minutes then EM shuts down with no errors? When I start EM back up I still see the packages? If I query sysdtspackages it returns zero rows? HELP!!!! They will not go away!!!!

Thanks,

hi

Check the name of the DTS package, because only when the package is scheduled , there will be an entry in the sysdtspackages, or else there would be any entry in sysdtspackages

Yes. I realize now that there should not be an entry in sysdtspackages. However, I still have the problem where I cannot delete my DTS packages stored in the repository.

Check your \Mssql7\Binn folder for the DTS package file. If it is there then delete that file.

The package was not saved to a file it was save to the repository which is really a structure of tables in the msdb database.

This might be one of the reasons to it:

Not the problem. I can see and edit the packages. I can even delete everything in the packages and save them, but I cannot delete the packages from the repository.

Try rebuilding the repository tables.

But then I would have to recreate all my other DTS packaghes that I am not trying to delete.

sorry for not checking this. i was little bit busy.

Take a backup of the msdb, rebuild the repository and then if it still doesn't work then , restore the msdb database from the backup.

Sudhi.

Jeff,

any luck with this issue?  we're seeing this for the first time on a test box... i'd rather not have to rebuild if there's another solution...

Thanks!

Jeff,

This little snipet of VB code seemed to do the trick on my pesky DTS Packages.  I have not investigated the msdb database yet to make sure it is 'really' removed, but it no longer appears in Enterprise Manager.

Enjoy!
