Hayes Modem

Ihave an Hayes Accura 56k ISA modem that in PNP and non-PNP.
I cannot get it dial under "KPPP", but can get it to dial under "minicom".  When it connects to my ISP(minicom), I get the logon and password prompts, and then it "switches to ppp", but I get a few lines of ASCII characters and then it disconnects me.  Any help???

Don't use minicom for a ppp connection.  Try running netconfig.  Go to interfaces, select your ppp interface, and click activate.  If it is configured correctly, it will connect for you and start ppp automatically.  If it fails to connect, select the option in netconfig for "Debug Connection".  Then try again.  After it fails, open /var/log/messages to view the ppp errors being generated during connection attempt.  It will be at the very end.  You can use the command:

tail /var/log/messages

to view the end of the file.  I like to open it in emacs because I can keep it open and retry the connection, click refresh under one of the menus and see what it is doing step-by-step as it happens.

Kppp has a lot of bugs, just setup a connection in Linux Config under network under ppp/slip/plip it is about the same to configure as is Kppp, but works better.
I hope this is helpful
