Controlling the maximum size of a form control?

I have an table which has the following row with the code:

                        <TR>
                              <TD WIDTH="10">
                              </TD>
                              <TD ALIGN="RIGHT" WIDTH="70">
                                    Function:
                              </TD>
                              <TD WIDTH="100" ALIGN="LEFT">
                                    <SELECT id=select1 name=select1>
                                          <OPTION>Dallas
                                          <OPTION>Mississippi
                                    </SELECT>
                              </TD>
                              <TD WIDTH="170">
                              </TD>
                              <TD ALIGN="RIGHT" WIDTH="60">
                                    Severity:
                              </TD>
                              <TD WIDTH="100" ALIGN="LEFT">
                                    <SELECT id=select1 name=select1>
                                          <OPTION>Dallas
                                          <OPTION>Mississippi
                                    </SELECT>
                              </TD>
                              <TD WIDTH="10">
                              </TD>
                        </TR>

It works great but when the option value gets longer or shorter
the control gets out of wack position wise relative to the whole page.

Is there a way to set the maximum and minimum size of a control not to exceed
a certain value like the maximum width = 50 for the control?

Thanks

can you give question clearly.If you want to increase width of combo box you have to select one option as big size.then width of combo box is set that much of length.

<SELECT id=select1 name=select1>
<OPTION>Dallas
<OPTION>Mississippi
</SELECT>

but for the sake of argument lets say one of the options has this value:

<SELECT id=select1 name=select1>
<OPTION>Dallas
<OPTION>Mississippi
<OPTION>This is a very long string
</SELECT>

the select part gets longer.  I would like to keep it the same width no matter what the value is in the options.

If that is the your question i can blently tell you you can't control the combobox.By default the width is set to its maximum option.
