No sound

The volume control icon that is usually in the lower righthand corner is gone and there is no sound on my computer.  When I turn the volume control up and down nothing happens.  I went to the control panel, system, and clicked on device manager and then on ENSONIQ Audio PCI and it says this device is disabled (code 22)and you can't enable this device because it has been disabled by a windows driver.  I've tried removing it and then restarting the computer.  When the computer starts up it installs it but still no sound and it still says the same thing.  What should I do now?  I tried Cremme's comment but it didn't work.

When you restart your computer hold down the F8 key so you get a start up menu.  Choose 3 for safe mode.  Once you are in safe mode go back to the device manager and remove everthing under "sound, video, and game controler"  Restart the computer.

To get your volume control back open the multimedia control panel and make sure there is a check in "Show volume control on the taskbar"
