Send text to other applications

Hi!

I've asked this once and Inthe has answer it, but that worked in a window with real editboxes... What about if I try to use it under IE??? It's text boxes don't have a class name (at least I couldn't find their names), so, I need to do something like this :

- Set the window foreground
- Set the cursor in the first one
- clear everything
- write "first"
- send TAB (or jump to next)
- clear everything
- Write "second"
- send TAB (or jump to the send button)
- press RETURN

- Note... In some cases, the RETURN button can be pressed after "second" is typed.

hi
are you talking about forms in a web page in ie ?

0
jpcsAuthor Commented:
yes.

Is it possible?
0
hubdogCommented:
you can send string to ie editbox like this

var wnd:hwnd;
    URL:string;
begin
wnd:=findwindow('CabinetWClass',nil);
wnd:=findwindowex(wnd,0,'Worker',nil);
wnd:=findwindowex(wnd,0,'ReBarWindow32',nil);
wnd:=findwindowex(wnd,0,'ComboBoxEx32',nil);
wnd:=findwindowex(wnd,0,'ComboBox',nil);
wnd:=findwindowex(wnd,0,'Edit',nil);

if wnd<>0 then
begin
  URL:='http://www.xxxx.com';
  sendmessage(wnd, WM_SETTEXT, length(URL), longint(pchar(URL)));
end;

good luck

jpcs,
im on my way out so no time to look but im positive someone else asked this question a week or so ago,check the other questions i dont think its been answered yet,or check the paqs in case.
i'll check in morning(12 hours).and see if it was answered or not.
id assume youll have to somehow get the text and parse the html to find the name of the forms feilds to fill them but it could be  quite difficult.

Thanks hubdog but I think, like you have noticed, that the edit boxes under IE Don't have classes.

Inthe :

If I san set focus on the window, can't I junt send there the keypresses?
I don't need to get the class names... just send the TABS (change field)

Have a nice trip

of course you can send keypress,first you can get the Htmlwindow of ie,and setcursorpos on it ,then use
  mouse_event(MOUSEEVENTF_LEFTDOWN,0,0,0,0);
  mouse_event(MOUSEEVENTF_LEFTup,0,0,0,0);
  keybd_event(VK_TAB,0,0,0);
to send mouse and key event

good luck

Ok hubdog, your code has ALMOST solved my problem.

One detail I couldn't solve... yet... instead sending VK_TAB, I want to send the text from EDIT1.TEXT. I tried :

for i := 1 to length (edit1.text) do
begin
   keybd_event (ord(edit1.text[i],0,0,0);
   sleep (10);
end;

That didn't work!!!

what I'm I doing wrong?

thanks

ops... one ) were in my comment missing.

keybd_event (ord(edit1.text[i]),0,0,0);

(that wasn't the problem :)) ).

hubdogCommented:
you can send char 'A' like this keybd_event(byte('A'),0,0,0);

or you can get a more useful routine in
\delphi5\info\Extras\Sendkeys directory

good luck

hubdogCommented:
you can use

  keybd_event(byte(chr(byte(edit1.text[i]))),0,0,0);

that will be ok

Hi there hubdog

keybd_event(byte(chr(byte(edit1.text[i]))),0,0,0);

doens0t work... specially if I'm using lowercase characters or some special characters '@', etc...

By the way... I don't have that folder.
Is it correct?

(*
SendKeys routine for 32-bit Delphi.

Written by Ken Henderson

Copyright (c) 1995 Ken Henderson     email:khen@compuserve.com

This unit includes two routines that simulate popular Visual Basic
routines: Sendkeys and AppActivate.  SendKeys takes a PChar
as its first parameter and a boolean as its second, like so:

SendKeys('KeyString', Wait);

where KeyString is a string of key names and modifiers that you want
to send to the current input focus and Wait is a boolean variable or value
that indicates whether SendKeys should wait for each key message to be
processed before proceeding.  See the table below for more information.

AppActivate also takes a PChar as its only parameter, like so:

AppActivate('WindowName');

where WindowName is the name of the window that you want to make the
current input focus.

SendKeys supports the Visual Basic SendKeys syntax, as documented below.

Supported modifiers:

+ = Shift
^ = Control
% = Alt

Surround sequences of characters or key names with parentheses in order to
modify them as a group.  For example, '+abc' shifts only 'a', while '+(abc)' shifts
all three characters.

Supported special characters

~ = Enter
( = Begin modifier group (see above)
) = End modifier group (see above)
{ = Begin key name text (see below)
} = End key name text (see below)

Supported characters:

Any character that can be typed is supported.  Surround the modifier keys
listed above with braces in order to send as normal text.

Supported key names (surround these with braces):

BKSP, BS, BACKSPACE
BREAK
CAPSLOCK
CLEAR
DEL
DELETE
DOWN
END
ENTER
ESC
ESCAPE
