a few quick questions:
Do you ever notice the time on your system getting slow or slipping?
When the system boots does it ever say, "detected new hardware"?
Have you had any other kinds of problems which may relate to the motherboard?

What programs are you running before you shut down? Watch what programs you run or maybe what program is being loaded on startup. Probably one is changing your video display.
Using Active Desktop? There is a setting that will revert any changes made. Active Desktop schtinks. Do the colors change? Does it revert to 640x480 at 16 colors? This would be a driver problem.
aha, larry is correct about this, check it and let us know.

Sorry, back again ....why getright???
I have seen it cause other problems simliar to this though not exactly this problem. Basically, and I'm not trying to be rude but, it's really not good for much other than using up memory. It might not be the problem but definately isn't helping the performance of your system and could be contributng.
Also, go back and remove the checks from run= and load=.
If you're at all interested, I would remove most of the other apps there too.

aim
scheduling agent
swtray ( i don't know what this is )
