6350 With Non-HP Software

I just upgraded from a ScanJet IIcx (SCSI) to a SJ 6350 (USB). The scanner and ADF work great with the HP software included. I am able to "scan to" or scan and "drag and drop" to Word, Excel, OmniPage Pro 10.0, and Ulead PhotoImpact 3.01. My problem is that when I try to scan from within these programs along with OmniForm 4.0 I get an error message stating that TWAIN.DLL can not be found in the Windows folder or that the scanning source could not be started. the TWAIN.DLL file is definately located in the Windows folder. What else do I need to do to get the scanner to work from within the applications. I did not have this problem with the IIcx.

Are you sure that OmniForm 4.0 has the capability of recognizing the 6350's twain data source files?

You might try this,

remove twain*.* and twunk*.* from the windows directory (place them somewhere else on your system) and then remove any hp*.ds files from the windows\twain and the window\twain32 directories. After doing this re-install the PrecisionScan Pro scanning software.
If you have ever had more than 1 scanner on a system, the default source in each application may still be set to the old scanner. Make sure that you use the Select Source option to select your new scanner.
I agree with 'lanceep' I had the same problem and the reason was that my default scanner was the old one (which didnĀ“t existed anymore).
I solved the problem getting in one of those programs that let you select the TWAIN source and changed it from there. Once you do this all the other programs start using the new scanner a default.
