Icons acting Crazy

For some reason my win98 Desktop icons go nuts from time to time. They will all turn white (no color) and then they will be duplicated on the other side of my screen at the same time in color. additionally, my taskbar icons such as volume control and connection speed and ICQ will turn totally black. these conditions do not go away until I restart my computer. I have a Tiger AMD K6-2 400mhz, 128ram,10gig HD that has 6gig free, Voodoo3 2000 PCI Video Card. I have reinstalled win98, used scandisk, macaffee viruscan, and disk defragmenter. Any help would be appreciated.

Do have a virus checker. Is it running. Could be a virus.
Try to reinstall your display-adapter drivers.
I'm guessing right-clicking the desktop and choosing "refresh" doesn't help.

Might be a virus or bad video drivers. It may also be an error windows made 'usual'... or because of a k6-2 bug.

Btw, at such a computer, how comes you don't have an AGP video board?

If the problem becomes annoying, you may be forced to re-install windows.

good luck!
Do you have any details about WHEN the problem appears? When starting a program, or something like this.
Have you tried deleting your C:\windows\shelliconcache
I have the same prob on my win95 computer. I fixed it by setting the colors down to 256 colors, suggesting something wrong with display drivers.
Like I first mentioned :
It is surely your display driver.
That Voodoo3 you have is an add-on card to your primary Video-card. Try to figure out the brand of your primary video card and install the latest drivers for it. Or goto www.3dfx.com for latest voodoo3 drivers
This happens alot to me. On my computer, after the system resoruces drop below 75% my screen doesn't respond like normal. This is only an annoyance. Simply save any open programs and under SHUTDOWN, select RESTART. Once windows starts back up, continue whare you left off
