problem with windows on the screen

I have Intel Celeron 400 MHz, 64 MB RAM, 10,2 GB HD, Intel740 AGP graphic card and Windows 98.
When I close some windows they still remains on screen ( when I close a dial-up connection). when I  open some windows( netscape windows) you can see background through them.
When I open some demos in Mathlab, they are seenable partially and they are partially transparent and Mathlab then stop responding.
I don't have problems with quality of graphics and with some demanding games, i just have problems with content of some windows.
I had previosly Win 95 and I haven't had that problem.
Thank You very much

I forgot tou tell you that I have a Chaintech 6BTM motherboard.
I reinstalled win 95 and now Mathlab works properly and there is no freezing end transparency , but when I instal driver for my graphic card there appears a conflict with another device, and the system constantly sees new hardware chips&technology accelerator. It seems imposible to instal intel740 AGP driver properly, while with win98 there is no such problem.
Do you think it is my motherboard  or graphic card or something else?

Imandic,

I suggest you re-post this in the Windows95/Windows98 section of EE to get the audience you're probably looking for.  It sounds like a config problem.

reinstall the windows 95, coz the memory can't properly manage your page surface flipping. it sometimes happen when you're lack of memory. of course it's quite big to have such 64 MB RAM but, if there are too many applications running at the background, 64MB RAM is not enough to stand with. try to reduce the amount of apps running in background (the apps icons you find at the bottom left corner beside the windows digital clock !!!)

Would someone be so kind to tell me how to reinstall win95, and that all programs and drivers are left untouched.
With SETUP  I can't manage to do it.
