just an advice...

i'm a beginner programmer in C++ under LINUX platform. i have seen that when i'm iat command line i can use 'cc' to compile my programs and GDB to debug them. Are there better tools to work? How about X-Window environment?

I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

better tool?
IMHO these are the best ('cause they're as simple as necessary).
What do you mean by "better"?
As much as I agree with ahoffman, one cannot avoid being
impressed by the power and completeness of kdevelop:

which I recommend more than anything, but of course,
it's for developing KDE applications mainly.
try sniff+, since version 3.2 it is freely available. it even offers tutorials.
And just to get this question out of here I would suggest that you check out

in order to find and download either one of those tools.  Kdevelop is nice if you like all the extra crap it generates for you.  It does work a bit like Visual C++ though.  Never used snif+.
