Setting up modem

I cant get the modem to work with linux. I think the initialization string is wrong. Every time it finds the modem, then says "Initializing modem" and jus sits there. Ive tried initialization strings such as ATZ, ATD, ATZT and wont work. Also my modem is a win modem I think. Some say it can still work. Can it? I my modem is a voice usrobotics 56k win  help!!

Your problem is that the modem you are using is a "voice usrobotics 56k win" modem.  Winmodems do not work in Linux.  You need to get a "real" hardware modem.  Preferably an external modem as they are guaranteed to work.
