"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

No, you cannot run your windows programs on linux. Ok, you could use vmware ( but that would require a dual P-III 500 with a gig of ram to run smooth.

Linux is an excellent platform for small servers, and stuff like that. It is NOT a good choise if you need "windows compability". In fact, it isnt even a good choise as a 'desktop os' unless you are very computer savvy, AND you do not need 'windows compability'. but for small servers, heck yes.

For big servers, i would use Solaris, HP-UX or NT.
