Call waiting

Hi, I was wondering if there is software or something to enable a call to be detected while I am online. I would like to use my phone line and still know if I am receiving calls. What should I do? I was told by my friends that they just receive a busy signal when I am online and they try to call. I heard that there might be some software that will allow the call to be directed to a caller ID or answering machine. Is this true? If so, what shoudl I do to hook this up? Thanks in advance.

Hi,
Does your Telephone support TAPI. Or do you want your Hardware to detect it or a Software??

Bye

What is TAPI? I am not sure what that is. Thanks for responding.
TAPI = Telephony Application programming Interface. It basically mean you can connect your phone to a computer, and monitor from there. But once again, even if it supports TAPI, it still is something your TelCo have to enable.
Hi,
As j2 said TAPI is Telephony Application Programmers Interface. Microsoft provided this standard for developers as well as Telephony component manufacturers. So if you Exchange (j2 calls TELCO) supports Caller Id recognition and your instrument supports TAPI then using some of the commercial TAPI softwares you can get the identification. But for incoming call notification the TELCO does not come into picture. Only your Instrument (Telephone) must be TAPI enabled to give you the incoming call notification.

There is an excellant software called CTPro by Picazzo communications (www.picazo.com) that handles incoming as well as outgoing calls. There are others too. Ask me if you are interested.

But is it what you wanted??????????
Bye

Some TELCO's provide exchange side answer services (BT in the UK it is called 'Call Minder')when u disconnect from the line in this instance the exchange will ring back informing you of a message being taken
