Turn your computer off.
Turn your monitor on, and let it warm up.
Turn your computer on.
When the Award BIOS is running the "RAM test",
press SHIFT and PAUSE, together.

Record the long line of alphanumeric characters near the bottom of the screen.

When you post that information, I can find the answer to your question.

Is there a specific problem you are try to fix through a BIOS update?  If not, then don't do it, the benefits don't outweigh the risks.

jhance , yes i am trying to get the computer to detect two sdram sticks which i bought...
I'd suggest that a BIOS upgrade is not likely to be helpful in that case.  You may want to look elsewhere first unless the BIOS update specifically says it fixes an SDRAM detection problem.

I've never had a BIOS version cause a memory detection problem.
I agree with jhance, I have never had a problem with BIOS and memory detection.

I share your feelings; I flash-updated one BIOS, and then it couldn't access the floppy, until I replaced the motherboard.  The other flash-updates I've done were "horror-free".
