goto control panel/add,remove/windows setup/ then choose to install microsoft fax.
If you are going to use faxing alot I would suggest you buy a program like WinFax pro. Installation is simple and the program runs great.

Trophy, there may be an easier way depending on what you are using for word processing software. Are you using office 97, 98 or Office 2000?
Hmm, a problem when you have a Compaq that comes preinstalled and not with a win98-cdrom... you can either contact Microsoft and get the complete win98-cdrom for a reduced price and then install as DarrenJ propose.
You can try out some shareware fax program from i.e. www.tucows.com. Search for FAX.

Compaq "can't" just supply Win98 on a machine, You should find a directory on your machine somewhere called WIN98CD or something along those lines.

This directory will contain the contents of the CD (or at least "should!") :-)
Well, DarrenJ, thats exactly what Compaq (and IBM, Packard Bell...) does. Yes, they ship their preinstalled win95/98 with the "cabs"-folder. c:\windows\options\cabs.
The cabs-folder includes the installation files from the cd, nothing else. Instead they have their own "recovery-solutions", like quickrestore, rescuedisk and smartrestore.
