Windows 98, Full or UPG Version

I plan to upgrade to Win 98 from Win 95 and also purchase a new PC without an operating system. Can I upgrade my old PC with the full version of Windows 98?

Yeah, but you would be better with a clean install. Also you can make a full install from an upgrade CD if you have your original Win95 setup disks. And it'll save you about a hundred dollars.
To use  full version as an upgrade, rename the file to win.sav. If you have a DOS subdirectory rename that DOSOLD. This should work

If you have an upgrade disk and want to install Win98 on a system with no operating system try what this site says:

I am not sure if this will work.

Allegedly you can do this:

Once you have access to the CD-ROM,
go to the Win98 subdirectory and

I'm told this bypasses the check for
a prior O/S.

If that doesn't work, try renaming
your existing WIN.COM to WIN.001 and
then running SETUP from CD-ROM.  If
neither trick works individually, try
them together.

Hope this helps...
