as/400 netserver

I want to access files on the as/400 using the internet. I'm using the as/400 netserver locally. Will samba work for this or is there some other product I need.
Thanks Lee

This is a complicated question. You may want to be much more specific about your questions. I am going to assume that you understand that an AS/400 uses OS/400 and is not a unix operating system. Samba does not run on the AS/400. You could have a Linux PC that runs the SMB Client software and access SMB style servers such as Samba, NT, and Netserver.

But you mentioned that you will want to do this over the internet. That is a pure IP environment. To see the netserver from a remote location you will need a LMHOST file or replicate the WINS database. This would require a NT server running WINS or SAMBA running locally. If the AS/400 is behind a firewall and uses a "non-routable" IP address then you would not be able to use a LMHOST file.
