CGI causes slow response

When CGI is active, our web server processor resources are spiked (dual 133 processors).  When CGI is not, the site works fine.  Microsoft told us that our perl dll is corrupt, but we restored it from backup, and the problem did not go away.  Any ideas?

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

I presume that this is NT 4.0 with the latest service packs (at least 4). I presume you are using IIS with Perl (which version?)  and they could very well be right. So I would first refetch a clean copy from the web.

ms provides a poor platform for running such things. install linux and run apache. or if you wont do that you can still run apache as an nt service.
