startcraft multiplayer games over ipx network

How do I get around the error message
"the starcraft version you are playing against is incompatible". I'm simply trying to play my son in a pc to pc environment using a hub and 2 computers. I've loaded the same version on both pc's
thanks

Well, first of all, i would download the LATEST version of starcraft for both computers.  In some of the earlier versions, there were conflicts with pc to pc connections.  go to www.battle.ner or www.blizzard.com and get the latest starcraft patch.  If that doesnt work, then i would check and make sure that all of the network settings are correct.  From personal experiance, i always install the game into the same directory on both computers(c:\starcraft)  this way, there is no conflict at all(believe me.  It happens)

Thanks a million! I see the other guy on the other workstation but was not able to play the game. I'll try your advice tonight but, thanks for being so prompt. I feel pretty confident your proposed solution will fix the problem.

I tried the patches but the setup said i had already installed the latest 1.7 patch.
i made sure both versions were installed in the same directory on c:
i still get "unable to join game. the selected game is an incompatible version of starcraft"
i sincerely appreciate your quick response. If you have any other suggestions, that would be great. I read the manual and there wasn't much on playing games over ipx. I have ethernet 10/100 cards installed on each system with cat5 cable into a hub. i have protocols tcpip, ipx and netbeui installed.
