Hi,

This question has already been asked in the passed and nobody could give an answer.  I've looked on different sites and there doesn't seem to be something to crack pdf files.  There are possibilities but you'll have to know about working with hex programming.

Do you also know that it's not legal to crack pdf documents?

Why isn't it legal?

They don't put passwords for fun on their documents.  If they don't protect it, anybody can distribute a remake with lot of lies in it.

Yes, I know the intent.  But the question remains:  is it illegal to unprotect password-protected PDF documents?

This is called "password recovery" and I can think of very many legitimate uses for it.  Now, whether or not the encryption used in this particular case is strong and effective is another story altogether.  But imagine for a moment that it is crackable.  Question then becomes: is it legal to do so?

Part of the problem too is what country or jurisdiction are you referring to when you say that it is illegal to do so?

Hi,

In my country, almost everything is illegal (but there's almost allways a workaround).  In Russia, on the other hand, anything is possible.  It's logic because you can't buy legal software.

You'll have to find out yourself if it is illegal in your country.  Where do you live?  Maybe one of the other experts live in your country.

I asked this question some time ago.  After doing much research I found that the rumoured 'PDF cracker' was a fake.  Adobe protects passwords with a 48bit encription algorithm which would not take 'forever' to crack, however, no one has (to date) bothered to create a cracker.

I did have a legit. need for a cracker...but I ended up just scanning the document and OCR'ing the results.

BTW, Is there a good OCR package out there that can pretty much duplicate a document (w/graphics) with good accuracy as a Word document?  I'm not impressed with Omnipage!!

In some states (mine) it is illegal to access any file, computer system or other electronic device that is protected by a password.   As far as the pdf problem....  Try posting to a alt.crackers or something like that....
