Binary file editing

Is it possible to open and edit a binary file using vi in Linux?  If so, how should it be done?
1 Solution
No, vi assumes that the code is text, and will sometimes add newlines in where you don't want them, or be unable to display long lines....

If I need to edit a binary file, I use emacs in hexl mode, which allows you to edit binary files.
