I would definately use the BDE, especially if you are new to using databases.

Use a Table component to access a Paradox table (can be created from Database Desktop)

Midas is usually used to allow multiple programs running on different computers to look at a Table, SQL etc component on a server machine.

Hope that helps...
If you want to create a single user application with Database and application on same machine then you have different choices :

1- Use BDE and in this case you have to install the bde on each user machine.

2- If you are using D5 with ADO componenets then you can use ADO active data control and in this case you have to install ADO one each user machine if it is not installed.

What is your Database ?

I don't have any database yet, why can't I use TClientData from the Midas page?
TClientDataSet works with a flat file in single tier applications but can not connect to a Database and this flat file could be either binary format or xml format. I don't know if this is what you want!

I don't care which format I use, just so I can use DBGrid to view the info.
