changing a motherboard

I have a pentium 3 500 computer with an abit be6 mainboard already up and running with windows 98. I want to install a new motherboard,(Asus p3c2000) and just transfer all the components. My question is,.. do i have to reconfigure all the info on my harddrive as well as the irq and connections or will the new  motherboard recognize the information already on my harddrive??? I hope i've made this question clear. Thank you.

So long as all your hardware (especially you processer) are compatable with the motherboard, the plug and play option on windows 98 should only need to change the mother board resources and it will do it automaticly.  Just have the mother board drivers on hand.  And beware of stuff that is on the built onto the mother board (sound card video ram ...ect)
Good luck and go for it..##

Hope this helps

Your irqs and stuff should be reconfigured automatically. If they don't and you see yellow or red marks in control panel/system then you should boot into safe mode and remove all devices in there. After that, and some reboots, you will yellow marks on the video adapter, keyboard driver and direct memory access controller. Go into safe mode again. For each of the above devices you will see TWO drivers. Remove them BOTH and reboot. They will be detected again and correctly this time.
