Writeing & Reading a file

how do I search a file for a string that is something like:

"IP21=A,127.0.0.1"

and then replace everthing from the = to the right with nothing so it would then be

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

This code should do it for you:

    Dim fNum As Long
    Dim iVal As Long
    Dim jVal As Long
    Dim FileName As String
    Dim lBuf() As String

    'SET THE PATH TO THE FILE HERE
    FileName = "c:\windows\desktop\testfile.txt"

    'READ THE FILE INTO THE lBuf ARRAY
    fNum = FreeFile
    ReDim lBuf(0) As String
    Open FileName For Input Access Read As #fNum
    Do While Not EOF(fNum)
        Line Input #fNum, lBuf(UBound(lBuf))
        ReDim Preserve lBuf(UBound(lBuf) + 1) As String
    Loop
    Close fNum

    'WRITE THE FILE BACK FROM THE ARRAY
    Open FileName For Output Access Write As #fNum
    For iVal = 0 To UBound(lBuf) - 1
        'HERE IS WHERE WE CHECK FOR THE LINE
        jVal = InStr(1, lBuf(iVal), "IP21=")
        If Not jVal = 0 Then
            lBuf(iVal) = Left$(lBuf(iVal), jVal + 4)
        End If
        'WRITE THE RECORD BACK
        Print #fNum, lBuf(iVal)
    Next iVal
    Close fNum

Cheers!
