There might be some port sharing or irq conflicts. Check in the Printer's folder in Control Panel to see if everything is set as it should be.

Parallel port connection is shared with printer's port.

I am unable to understand the meaning of USB.

In other words do you have the printer and the scanenr attached to the same port ?
0
usguptaAuthor Commented:
Yes Printer and scanner are attached to the same port.Whether the scanner is on or off it does not effect the printer.I have Checked in the Printer's folder in Control Panel also but could not locate any error.

No error??
You mean when you try to print something there isn't an error message that says it can not find "printer"

I assume you have hooked the printer directly to the printer (leave the scanner out) and checked this to make sure the printer worked fine then?

Some Printers dont like to be plugged inline with scanners. Eg with a cannon scanner only the newer cannon printers with go inline without problems(Not in all cases). Try your printer seperatly if it works ok, I suggest u buy an extra parallel port for about $50 ( a modern fast one).Disregard this if it has been working and just stoped recently.

I have tried my printer seperatly  it works ok, but whenever it is connected on the same port with scanner it stops working.

You will need to get a seperate port for the printer an lpt2 port and install it into the pc. and then install the printer on lpt2

While you are waiting to get the add-in parallel port card (which you really need), you might TRY disabling bi-directional communications with the printer.  SOMETIMES this will let you use scanner and printer on the same port.

Please advise how to disable bi-directional communication with the printer ( in details please)

briancassinCommented:
go to start settings printers right click on the printer select properties go to the details tab click on spool settings select disable bi-directional communication... and select to print directly to the printer i.e. (raw) for spool data format

Sorry about being slow to get back, thunderstorms in the area.  Anyway, briancassin provided your answer.  Scanners can't use bi-directional communications, so when the print spooler tries to do it, it messes up the process.  Did it help??

Thankyou.Disabling bi-directional communications has solved my problem.
Is there any need to have add-in parallel port card.

awmytie do you wanna take the credit or what not ?

brian...Well, I could USE the points, but I'm not greedy...whatever usqupta decides is fine with me.

usqupta:  You really should get the add-in parallel card if you have the slots to spare.  Giving up bi-directional communications eliminates some of the printer warning stuff that can sometimes be handy -- paper jams, etc.
Of course, you also have some decisions to work on -- 1-port or 2-port? ISA or PCI?  Amedia or SIIG (or others)?  You can even get them with built-in IDE controllers and other goodies.  Where you do the research for this is anybody's guess.
