PPP Drops Modem

After authentication, the line is dropped.

Paraphrase of /var/logs/messages:

(authentication is complete)
 pppd <> ppp0
 modem hangup

Any ideas?

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

How about posting the actual output of /var/log/messages here.  Also, before doing so, set up the debug connection flag.  Then try to connect.  It will send more verbose messages to the file.  It sounds like a handshaking problem with the isp and your modem.

Upgrade to the new version of pppd.
There is a problem with the version coming with redhat 6.1 ftp://ftp.redhat.com/updates/6.1/i386/pppd...

Best of luck.

Uh.  Why was that posted as an answer?  What if he doesn't even have RH 6.1?  He didn't even state what distribution he is using.
