Run printer on Com 2?????

A friend has an HP inkjet printer on his PC's LPT1.  He wanted to install a Canon BJC-250 on his SERIAL port COM 2.  We were unsuccessful.

We kept getting a "flag" indicating a communications failure on COM 2.  Can this kind of installation be done?

If so how?

A com port is serial port. A LPT port is parealel. The printer must have a serial interface to use a COM port. The standard printer interface is parralel. Even though you can get adapter plugs to make them plug together serial and parralel are not compatable. You might be more successful with an A/B switch to select the printer you want to use.
