BTW, the book is Problem Solving with C++, The Object of Programming by Walter Savitch.  The book is actually good although I have nothing to compare it to.  But I understand it for the most part.

From your original posting, I thoguht that the book had very bad code in it and wanted to write to the author.

But you later explained that you had written the code, so there's nobody left for me to correct--I've already answered your questions about the code.
