"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Reference drivers are drivers made by the chip manufacturer instead of the device manufacturer. Like a VooDoo Rush is built on a chip made by 3DFX but may come on a card made bt Diamond or others. Most reference drivers will work fine but the card maker usually put addtional utilities or functions on the card that the reference drivers wouldn't work
Reference drivers should work the hardware but it won't always due to the functions and utilities the card maker uses.
