Long Boot after being out to DOS

After booting into DOS mode for a legacy word processor, system taking about 3 minutes to boot back to Windows, or sometimes hangs.

Read comments (both were good) and tryed clearing out CONFIG.SYS (the version operative under Windows, not version used under DOS since I needed it in DOS), which solved problem (had HIMEM and EMM386). Machine/OS info: ASUS ME-99, Win 98 SE, 64 meg. Thanks!

I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

I would try renaming the following:

autoexec.bat
autoexec.dos
config.sys
config.dos

Do you return to windows by typing 'exit' or do you press ctrl-alt-delete?

The second option is the best one to me.
