"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

What is the exact error message ?

Try these general troubleshooting steps ...

Go to start shutdown and select to restart in msdos mode once in msdos mode type at the c:\windows prompt DIR>Lpt1 and then press enter it should print if it does not please provide the error message it gave or if it did nothing.

Go to start settings printers right click on the printer make sure there is a checkmark next to set as default. if it is not highlight set as default and then left click once.

Right click on the printer again select properties go to details make sure it says for print to the following Port Lpt1, if it does not set it to this and then apply it and reboot...

Check your cable make it is attached and there are no loose screws where it is attached on the back of the pc on the port...

Also with the error message your are providing please tell me what program you are printing from and what version of windows

if these suggestions fix the problem then please accpet comment as answer

Along with this problem, when I turn on the printer power, I hear a high pitch beeping from the computer tower.
I'm running windows 95 and cannon BJC- 4300 printer. I think in the message I sent earlier I said the error message was; EPT1.....PLEASE disregard that, it says LPT-1 ERROR

              Thanks, guice@erec.net

Check your printer port mode in the BIOS.  The BJC-4300 only seems to work properly on the SPP (standard printer port) mode.  This is sometimes called: Output Only, Standard or Normal.

If this doesn't fix it.....

Does the printer give any beep error codes, if so please post them.

Hope this helps

If you are getting beeps for the tower upon bootup please post what kind of beeps and how long unless this is comming from the printer but if it is from the tower then it is the POST test of the BIOS and that would not be good
