Applying Gradient to a curve

I'm trying to apply a linear gradient to a curve (actually a spiral). I want the first color of the gradient at one end of the spiral and I want it to follow the spiral linearly so the colors blend as they go around the spiral. A Radial gradient won't work, but there's got to be some way to do this.

Hate to break it to ya...but no...You could do it in illustrator with a gradient mesh but not in photoshop. The only way youre going to be able to do it is by using a fat airbrush, mask off your current working section and paint it in piece by piece leaving the edges fuzzy so the colors blend together. I know its a pain but photoshop doesnt have the ability to apply a curved gradient.
