Can this be done??
Hello,
I don't know if this can be done or not but here it is:
Part1)
On the internet there is a webpage that has a Counter that is set up to display a money total. The counter incerments and uses a Java Applet for this. We would like to have our own Java Applet and counter "or something" that will also incerments on our Webpage "real-time". We would like to keep track of the incerment, so everytime it goes up our counter also goes up.
Part2)
From this we would like to have that incerment "Java Applet" control a counter in C++. Our C++ program than does the appropriate thing.
Thanks for any suggestion on this
Clinton
THanks
Clinton

1. yes it's possible. :)
2. you'd better use server side CGI script (.exe / Perl / PHP / servlet) and your client applet will make direct HTTP requests (GET or POST) to that CGI script. this way your solution will work behind firewalls that does not allow direct socket connections.

Hey Hey,
Can you please provide more information so I know exactly what I should post in the CGI. Would you know where I can find information on this?

I think you should drop one of the users - or at least don't talk about them in public. It's against EE policy to allow users have more than one account.

Create a storage location on the Server Side, file, database, what ever your WebApp is using. Create a process on the server side that moniters some port that is known to the JavaApp. When it is time to increment to counter, have the JavaApp establish a connection with the server via a socket connection. Now the server side can do what ever you need it to do, i.e. Call your C++ application ..... or what ever.
There are several other ways to do this, it just depends on how much control you need with the value of the counter.

Dave
