Installing window 98 Second Editon

When I try to install window 98 it says:
The window 98 files that are required for this upgrade cannot be found on your computer.  You must install a complete version of Window 98 before installing Window 98 Second Edition.

I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Yes. MS has a solution for that error.
Can't recall exactly what it is, and can't look for it right now.
Be patient and someone will link you to it.
If not, I'll search a bit later.

I am not a big 98 user but can't you just put the cd or disk of an old ver. of windows (3.x or 95) in and have the install look for it?
I know 95 will.

The proper procedure is to insert your "Setup Boot disk" from your previous version of Win95 or Win98 into your A: drive when it is requested during setup. There is a workaround for this that I am searching for. For some reason my setup boot disk for Win95 is not being accepted.
