QERadiant Problems With Quake 2 (windows98)

I'm having some problems with QERadiant using bsp_fasvis (or
any other) it allways returns an error like this

SetQdirFromPath= no "quake2" in c:\progra~1\qeradi~1\/maps/mapname.bsp
GetLastError() = 0

I've done several clean installs of Quake 2 and QERadiant, but to no avail.
I've also tried messing with the paths in the preferences.. is there
something I should do/or have forgotten to do? Could the project files etc.. be a part of my problem?


Also, before the problems started plaguing me.. i was able to compile
several maps.. I placed a info_player_start and I compiled  the map but Quake2 had
the error that it couldn't find the spawning point? what does it mean by
that.. I have placed it in the editor.. ?

ok, the exact error message i recieve is :

it does it loading procedures.. like after i tell it to load my map with /map mapname or map mapname  and it load the stuff in the console.. and then just gives me this error...

i'm wondering if it has to do with actual level placememnt... i noticed that there are "blocks" 0,0 , 0,1 etc..  now is it necessary to have the player start in block 0,0?


Ok, here is the map i'm talking about.. the one that won't Run.. it's located at : http://www.telusplanet.net/public/sbrown/quake/stairs.txt (change .txt to .map when downloaded) :) not trying to insult.. just my browser had an error trying to retrieve it..so i uploaded it as txt the second time..

take a look.. see what you think.. i had the player start set behind the stairs in the big room.. inside of that long boxed shaped room at the end... by the rocket and ammo..

this is a directory error, you don't have the map that you want to vis in the qeradiant directory. it says it is looking for the "mapname.bsp" in this dir c:\progra~1\qeradi~1, there should be a subdir in this dir with the name maps and then save your maps to this subdir and then run the vis program, I'm sure if you mess around some more with the "paths in the preferences" you should be able to get it to run on a file located wherever you want.

I remember in q1 that there needs to be a spawning point for a human players and more than one for multiplay maps. There was also a "special" spawing point needed for each map and then if you want more then you use the regular info_player_start. can you be more specific about the error message you got?

ok It looks like this map doesn't have the info_player_start setup correctly, this is waht it is talking about when it says "couldn't find spawn point.

Let me look at my qeradiant program and see if I can find the correct entity that the game is looking for. I will post later today.

what version of qeradiant are you using? Please provide a link to the program if you can. I've tried to run the map with my version of qeradiant but it is for q3 not q2.

Sorry for taking so long to accept your answer.. it seems.. i basically had to fiddle with qeradiant till she worked for me.. and it does... and doesn't.. :) heh heh
