Need simple grafx edit prog. for jpegs/gifs

I work with elementary school students in a mac lab. Presently, we are using HyperStudio quite a bit. I am looking for a very basic graphics editor so that the kids can download a jpeg or gif from the web, and do basic editing like resizing, cropping, etc. and then import the graphic/photo into a hyperstudio stack. I don't want to use photoshop for this... some students would have no problem, but others have a difficult time just getting used to using hyperstudio.

Suggestions for simple user-interface programs greatly appreciated.

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Photoshop LE. Its the "light" version of photoshop and its siginificantly cheaper. Supports all the same file formats etc but is missing some filter features n such. It would be a good way to get them started with the adobe interface as well without scaring them with option overkill.
