"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

qmail forwards based on files located in ~alias (usually /var/qmail/alias). The files are, usually, in the form of ".qmail-foo" where "foo" is the name of the interim recipient. The file should contain "&bar@here.com" where "bar" is the name of the final recipient.

The easiest way of doing forwarding with Qmail IMHO is. In /var/qmail/alias you edit a file name .qmail-default

In this file you put the following :

| forward  "$LOCAL"@<hostname or IP of the mailserver you are forwarding to>

What this will do is to forward every E-mail that can not be delivered to another host.

By using this line no users or aliases should be defined on the qmail but they can be on the exchange.
