error 08S01 - link failure

I am using foxpro 2.6b for windows conected to sql server 7.0 with odbc 16 bits . Sometimes I receive the error message: error 08S01 - Communication link failure
I think that the problem is with my ODBC 16 bits Driver !

I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Check the following:
1. SQL Server has sp5a
2. Update MDAC from following
link http://www.microsoft.com/data/

3. check SQL Client Config for mathcing protocol at client and server end.

The latest version of MDAC is only for 32 bits odbc driver.

I installed 16 bits ODBC driver from Access 2.0 , but my foxpro application showed this error: odbc error 2 : invalid FPSQL connection handle , only when I try to connect to MS SQL Server 7.0 . I connect the same aplication to Sybase SQL Server 10 with the same ODBC driver without any problem
