Suggest that you consider downloading the firewall at this site: http://www.zonelabs.com/zonealarm.htm

Its free to individual users and gives a test site to check your security both before and after installation.

koiman, your are new to this site, and with that, welcome. However, unlike Newsgroups and Usenets, we observe a protocol or policy at this site with which you should become familiar. Experts do not post proposed answers that are incomplete or that are speculative, nor do they post proposed answers that incorporate the comments of others that have preceded you. In cases like this one, all answers are subjective and should be left to the choice of the questioner as to which best serves their purpose. By posting an answer as you have, you block the question from the view of another expert who may have a solution to the problem. Since questioners can accept comments as answers, it is beneficial to the questioner that speculative answers be posted as comments, especially when the issue involves further troubleshooting. Hopefully you will cooperate with us in the future.

JCT, you may want to visit this URL and review BlackIce. It's been reviewed in PCWorld, Windows Magazine, PCWeek and several others, and we use it in both stand-alone as well as server environments. It's completely configurable and the data base to prevent new intrusions is updated frequently. It's not free, but rarely is something worthwhile truly free.

Dennis, I thank you for your response to my question, and would like to ask a follow up question at this time.  What is a firewall and what does it do?  I understand the security issue, but do I need to be concerned if I am not sending private data out?  Can anyone get into my system once my DSL service is up and running, or is a firewall over kill?

Thank You

By The Way, I am using a stand alone PC, I'm not on a network

Dennis:

My DSL will be dynamic IP and not static IP will this have any additional security built in?
