After I do ftp into a Linux server, it seems I have to wait for a certain time so that I can type my username and password. Has anybody encountered this problem pls help me to solve ! It has just this line occurred "Connected to [host]".

The FTP server wants to do a reverse DNS lookup on the IP it sees you connecting from. If it doesn't have DNS enabled (or not properly configured) it'll have to timeout the DNS query before it'll allow you to authenticate.

Hi
I can't say this is your problem but do you use dns if you do the time lag could be due to the Linux Server trying to resolve the IP number of the box you are ftping from. You can either let dns know about the box your coming from or turn dns off on the box you ftping to to see if the lag dissapears.

If you're using WU-FTPD, it might also be trying to do an ident lookup, which takes longer to time out than an DNS lookup.

There's been no activity on this for seven days, so I'm going to consider my comment to be the answer.
