For Dew_Associates on help with SCSI HDDs

Thanks for your help on the Quantum SCSI HD.  Did the low level format, also did, in fact, run fdisk, and reformatted but still wasn't accessible or addressable.  Your comment, though made me redo them all and it proved fruitful.  Spent the last 48 hours fiddling with the SCSI system and no sleep, so your reminder helped.  This was my system with the financial data and critical to resolve.

This for your reminder which triggered me to redo all (after rechecking and fixing the termination problem).

Groggy but grateful, please post anything so I may accept and pay.

Thanks again for your help, Dennis.

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

astaec - you had a programming query about scandisk and a program to make it work the way you want - i noticed you're deleting your question so I cant post there - did a search and found you here

send by private email and I'll see if I can answer the query - it may take sometime and ALOT of tweaking

Thank you, Dennis.

Good morning, DarrinE.  I had given up hope on the automated fix, thus the deletion pending.  I can undo and leave open if you think you can do this.  Although I've already given this issue very much thought through time, can expound on my thinking.  This little package if you can develop it seems like it would have some great, expansive audience and hopefully some big bucks for you if you could then sell the solution.  Anyway, give a yell at  I'll see about removing the pending delete request.  Since I was running low on points, thought I'd recapture them in the interim, but if you've got some hope here, will reopen.

Whew, lots of words for so early in the AM.

WHAT A NIGHTMARE, on a different subject, limped over to my Bro's place and booted in SAFE MODE to find unbelievable stuff in device manager.

2 keyboards
9 or 11 hard disks (he has 3)
8 A floppy drives
8 monitors
2 SCSI interfaces for cards long gone
and tons of other garbage.

Also, he had an ancient NORTON's package which we quickly uninstalled and then in the reboot process were invited to reinstall Windows Setup since the setup.exe or the line was not in c:\windows\system (HELLO?????).  Norton strikes again.

Tried to Xcopy32 all from bad drive to good drive, xcopy32, xcopy, nothing found in c:\windows\command or anywhere else.

About to go back there and just us DOS processes to copy directories if I don't find an alternative quickly.  Can't boot in SAFE MODE.  Did boot, after fixing BIOS, using A EBD with DVD/CDROM support, creating RAM partition and finally able to move files manually (ho hum).

Computers sometimes bite the hand that feeds them.
