'Friend' declaration

Is there something in JAVA similiar to the C++ 'Friend' declaration?
I wish to retrieve a protected property outside of its package.

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Package level access (the default) is as close to a friend declaration as Java goes. To get information from outside the package a method or variable must be public (an acccessor method might be appropriate) or protected (which allows subclasses to access variables and methods in superclasses (even if it is in another package)).
