How can I make a resident program
running under MS Windows and
catch system messages?

What "system messages" are you referring to?

Any application in MS Windows is "resident". The user can switch to any other application they want to at any time.

If you want to catch _all_ messages sent anywhere, set a system hook. See the documentation on the SetWindowsHookEx() for more information.
